Although nanostructured transparent iron oxide pigment is a kind of inorganic pigments in view of its synthetic, performance and characteristics, it also owns properties of organic pigments.Compared with opaque ones, the particle size of transparent iron oxide pigments is much smaller, only 0.01-0.015μm, The small size of crystals determines the large specific surface area (about 128㎡/g) of transparent iron oxide pigment, which results in their high oil absorption(up to 80-100).By comparison, the oil absorption of phthalocyanine blue 56, phthalocyanine green 46, carbazole violet 84, and opaque iron oxide only 18. Since the particle diameter of transparent iron oxide is smaller than half light wavelength, the pigments have transparent colors when scattering in the media and made into sequent films.Moreover, due to their tiny particle diameter, nanostructured iron oxide pigment are totally different from the opaque ones in aspect of light absorption and scattering, and thus they have vivid colors instead of dark colors performed by opaque one.
